此曲由美國民謠歌手Hedy West創作，並於1961年率先發行在民歌三重唱The Journeymen(旅行者)的同名專輯中，後有日本搖滾歌神忌野清志郎改編日文版的500 miles，被松隆子和忌野清志郎本人唱過。值得注意的是，應區別於Bobby Bare的《500 miles away from home》。

2013年Justin Timberlake 聯手Carey Mulligan和Stark Sands在主演新片Inside Llewyn Davis《醉鄉民謠》中深情獻唱主題曲500 Miles，該片於2013年12月4日在比利時和法國上映 ，2014年1月2日在德國上映。
